Media Interest in Workplace Aggression Research

Danny, HillsA small number of fatal and near-fatal outcomes for Australian doctors and nurses at the hands of patients or former colleagues have received wide media attention over the last 15 years. But only occasional media reports emerge of the often daily incidents of verbal and physical aggression experienced by many health workers, especially in public hospitals. Medical magazines 6minutes and Australian Doctor recently reported on a newly published review of the research literature (doi: 10.1016/j.avb.2013.07.014), authored by Danny Hills (PhD Student at the SPHPM) and Associate Professor Catherine Joyce, which highlighted the limited evidence on workplace aggression and its prevention in clinical medical practice. Danny's PhD research on workplace aggression continues to receive industry, research and media interest as he has uncovered the extent, risk and protective factors, and consequences of workplace aggression in Australian clinical medical practice.
