Sri Lankan Trainees vist the Maroondah Youth Services Providers

Supun and Thilanga 2The Dr Supun Wijesinghe and Dr Thilanga Ruwanpathirana, two of the Sri Lankan Trainees based at the SPHPM went on a bus trip around the Maroondah youth service providers on the 1st of August. The youth services included the EV’s Youth Centre, Eastern Health - Child and Youth Mental Health Services, EACH Youth and Family Services, Mullum Mullum Indigenous Gathering Place, Wesley Homelessness and Supporting Services and Headspace Knox.

Dr Wijesinghe commented on the importance of delivering health services to adolescents. He commented “Adolescents represent a little over one fifth of the total population in Sri Lanka. Although the country has made substantial progress towards addressing Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) yet there are some identified gaps in delivery of health services to adolescents.” He said that knowledge gained by studying various multi model approaches used, in the centres visited, to address the problems faced by youth will be quite useful in developing/revising public health policies in Sri Lanka.
