Hon Georgie Crozier attends the TORC Annual Seminar

TORC125The Transfusion Outcomes Research Collaborative (TORC) hosted its annual educational seminar on the 20th of September at the AMREP Lecture Theatre. This year’s topic was 'Thalassaemia and Sickle Cell Disease: Update on clinical management, new research and emerging therapies'.

The seminar was officially opened by Parliamentary Secretary for Health, Hon Georgie Crozier, MLC and greetings were conveyed from Dr Androulla Eleftheriou, Executive Director, Thalassaemia International Federation.

TORC is establishing a new national Haemoglobinopathy Registry to capture information on demographics, diagnoses, management and outcomes of these important clinical conditions. Associate Porfessor Erica Wood, head of the TORC emphasised the importance of having this registry stating “In Australia we are unaware of the number of  people are suffering from Thalassemia and sickle-cell anemia.”
