Dr
Sara Holton of the Department
of Epidemiology and Preventive Medicine has won the 2013 Medicine, Nursing
and Health Sciences Faculty ECR Publication Prize, for public health research.
Her paper, titled the childbearing concerns and related
information needs and preferences of women of reproductive age with a chronic,
noncommunicable health condition: a systematic review, looked at women with
chronic diseases who feared their condition could limit their reproductive
choices. It found that there is a shortfall in adequate information on this
topic for women to access, and recommended better tools be developed.
The paper was published in a high-ranked international
women’s health journal, and was reported in the Medical Observer.
Dr Holton received $1000 to go towards her research and was
given a certificate by Professor Ross Coppel, The Faculty's Senior Deputy Dean / Deputy Dean (Research), as well as being invited to give a presentation on her work.
