Renata Morello attends 20th Biannual World Congress of the International Association for Geriatrics and Gerontology, Soeul, Korea

IAGGRenata Morello recently travelled to Seoul, Korea to speak at the 20th Biannual World Congress of the International Association for Geriatrics and Gerontology, to present research on the 6-PACK Falls Prevention Research Project, as part of a submitted symposia titled ‘Are we walking in the wrong direction with falls prevention in hospital falls?’

Despite an increase in falls prevention activity over the last decade, rates of reported fractures from in-hospitals falls remain unchanged. There is evidence that implementation of a targeted nurse delivered program can decrease fall injuries. The 6-PACK Project is designed to test the efficacy and sustainability of the 6-PACK program, involving >40,000 patients from 24 acute wards in six hospitals across Australia.  It is the largest falls prevention project to be conducted in the acute setting.

Knowledge from the 6-PACK trial was presented, in particular how to use data to drive practice change, the importance of leadership, regular on-ward face-to-face training and the use of audit and feedback, and some of the critical success factors to implementing a falls prevention program in the acute hospital setting.

Renata was also involved in a number of networking activities to discuss potential collaborative work, whilst enjoying some of Seoul’s tasty cuisine!
