Andrology Australia Move to the SPHPM

After 13 years at the Monash Institute of Medical Research, Andrology Australia has moved to the School of Public Health and Preventive Medicine.

Established in 2000 by Professor David de Kretser AC to address the need for independent, evidence-based information, Andrology Australia primarily focuses on prostate disease (including prostate cancer), testicular cancer, male infertility, use and abuse of testosterone treatments, and sexual dysfunction (including erectile dysfunction).

The field of andrology is not a recognised medical specialty in Australia, consequently its practitioners are drawn from diverse professional areas, including endocrinology, urology, general practice, primary care nursing, Aboriginal health, and public health from across the country.

As the Andrology Australia program has developed over the years, much of its focus has overlapped with SPHPM’s research priorities, particularly in areas such as disease prevention, health promotion, and increasing use of evidence in policy and practice. In joining SPHPM, Andrology Australia hopes to further contribute to the research that underpins its professional and community education programs and to develop strategic collaborations both within the School and beyond.
