ARC Linkage Grants: Associate Professor Peter Smith

peter-smith

Associate Professor Peter Smith has been successful in his application for an ARC Linkage grant. His project aims to analyse the effect of the changing Australian labour market on returning to work following an injury.

Today’s Australian labour market participants are older and more ethnically diverse; work arrangements are more fragmented; and workplace hazards are less visible. These changes have had profound effects of work-related injuries and illnesses: both in terms of the types of injuries sustained and the demographic profile of workers who are getting injured.

The objective of this research proposal is to identify the relationship between occupational, workplace, health care provider and individual level factors on disability, recovery expectations, self-efficacy to RTW, and actual RTW and work productivity over a 12 month period among workers compensation claimants in Victoria.

The knowledge generated from this project will help to inform the development of RTW policies and procedures that address the changing face of compensation claimants in Victoria and Australia. The linkage partners are WorkSafe Victoria, Safe Work Australia, BeyondBlue, The Australian Human Rights Commission, and The Australian Industry Group.
